They said the fireworks were beautiful
Lighting the new year’s sky
They said they looked like flowers
Of every colour and size
They said it thrilled their waiting hearts
To see such a lovely sight
I couldn’t help but let out a sigh
Thinking of our plight
A new year dawned with cheer and hope
But the hunger simmered inside
While the wallet was filled with smoke
Money burned in the sky
I wish I had that chance at hand
To pull my skin apart
And make them see and feel the pain
Of fireworks in my heart
